Chapter 207
Chapter 207
A few days passed, and some random epidemic started to go around in the castle. The disease that made one’s arms and legs rot spread so quickly that those who got sick would die in four days. Even those who didn’t show any symptoms would suddenly get it.
“I heard that only holy water works on this disease, so all the lower classes are dying quickly.”
‘The corpse melts in black if you die with that disease?’
This wasn’t an epidemic. Just what kind of disease would melt a person! The moment I heard her story, I remembered young Count Russen demonizing when I was kidnapped.
Only holy water works and the disease that makes your body melt. Demonizing.
As soon as the woman finished her story, I knew that I needed to go to Lorkdie immediately. Without hesitation, I stood up and declared, “I have to go to Lorkdie.”
However, before I could take another step, Dylan stopped me in my tracks.
“You can’t,” he said firmly.
I turned to face him, feeling a mix of frustration and urgency. “Sir Dylan.”
“I’ve never heard of a disease like that. Since we don’t know what it is, something bad may happen if you go.”
I stared into his deep navy eyes.”
‘Dylan doesn’t know Piett. But….’
I told him in a low voice that the lady wouldn’t hear me.
“This disease is demonizing. We have to purify the entire estate quickly.”
“De…!”
Dylan was about to scream as if he was so surprised but quickly covered his own mouth.
“Then you really can’t go. They will be after you. Ask the group for reinforcement.”
I shook my head.
‘The time of moons colliding is almost here. At this rate, I don’t know what he’ll pull. PIett and I have to finish our business anyway.’
From the mask ball to people dying due to an ambush in my room. Even though I have no strength, there must be something I can do there. It’d be best to go with Ridrian, but I don’t know what Piett might pull on him, so it’s better that he’s not here.
“Lorkdie doesn’t have time for that. And I didn’t say I was going alone.”
“Then…?”
I went to the lady who was shivering and held her hands.
“Don’t worry, ma’am. I’ll go.”
“… T, thank you, saintess!”
The lady started to cry. It seemed like she was very worried about her son.
I consoled the crying lady and was determined.
‘Piett will definitely be there. I have to be prepared.’
It was sudden, but I knew this was coming.
I quickly ran to the office. It’ll be a long journey, so I borrowed soldiers and carriage from Raven, and was going to accompany Ravis and a few priests with strong divine power.
“Ah, Viscount Lesprey. Hello.”
“Chancellor Deluke, hello.”
Chancellor Ivan and Ravis were in the room along with some other nobles. I flinched as I saw a silver hair noble and thought it was Piett, but thankfully he had green eyes.
Chancellor Ivan, who was chatting with them, seemed to be troubled as the peace treaty wasn’t signed. And when I told him that I’m going to Lorkdie suddenly, he frowned. He left those who knew me in the room and sent everyone else out of the room.
He sat on the sofa across from me and rubbed his face.
“We are at war right now. Are you sure you are well aware of that?”
“Yes, I know. But I still must go.”
The moment he heard me, he declined right away.
“Never.”
“It’s right beside this estate. If it’s an epidemic, it might have reached here.”
“Currently Vanmon isn’t accepting outsiders so there will be no problem. And that estate didn’t forfeit so it’s not part of Ivant right now. There’s no need for you to care.”
How selfish! I realized that I can’t get help by trying to persuade them normally.
‘I didn’t want to threaten them with this.’
I looked around and sighed.
“Even if the person who is responsible for this is after His Majesty?”
Everyone’s face turned pale the moment I said this.
***
“H, His Majesty who would kill but won’t die himself?”
Chancellor Ivan’s hands and eyes shook faster than others.
“Does the enemy have a death wish?” Raven calmly asked, but he kept on failing on fixing his glasses.
“I think you have someone in your mind.” Only Ravis understood what I was saying, as he asked in a serious tone. I nodded slightly.
“He must be behind this as well. The person who ruined the masked ball as well.”
Ravis’s face became serious. He heard what happened that day from me and was the only one who was aware of just exactly how powerful Piett was.
“Wasn’t that done by the people from Russen family?”
Chancellor Ivan asked. He really didn’t seem to be aware that demons were involved in this.
“There was someone who was controlling young Count Russen.”
I almost spat out Piett’s name. I wanted to let Ridrian, but then he wouldn’t even think twice about going there to kill Piett. So it was the perfect timing for Piett to get something going when he wasn’t here.
‘I know he’s dangerous, but it’s better than Rian being in danger.’
At least Piett didn’t want to kill, just to give me a warning. If he did, then I would’ve already been dead at the masked ball.
“Oh, oh my god. T, there really is one.”
Chancellor Ivan seemed even more shaken as he was covering his head.
“It would not be good if His Majesty dies… No, that’s not good at all. Then I’d have to rule this bloated Empire somehow! I can’t do that. Even if it’s for Milly but still…”
I was flustered for a moment as Chancellor Ivan was biting his nails while looking like he was completely out of his mind.
“Why would you be the one ruling the Empire when His Majesty is gone?”
“Ah, his wife, the Duchess Deluke is stepsister with His Majesty. For sparing her, Chancellor Ivan made a deal that he would be doing chancellor work for the rest of his life.”
I clapped my hand at Raven’s explanation. The only royalty other than Ravis that wasn’t mentioned in the novel was finally revealed.
