Chapter 152.2
Chapter 152.2
Joo Seolheon became increasingly sensitive and irritable.
‘How many times do I have to tell you not to look at me like that! I told you not to look at me with those eyes! Am I carrying someone else’s seed? I’m pregnant with our child, not raising a demon!’
‘Z-Zoya, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean it like that…’
‘Then do something about those terrible eyes! Just seeing your gaze makes me feel miserable!’
‘I-I’m sorry.’
‘Every time you avoid us, iIt feels like I carry something that isn’t human! It’s so miserable!’
Rigay wiped his eyes and kept muttering apologies, but he still didn’t come any closer. It had been a long time since he had shown a shy smile.
From the time she was nearing full term, her husband’s late nights became more frequent. A cowardly coward. A crazy cult bastard.
He had said it was hard to approach him because he was caught up in a cult, and Damon’s words were right. Today, Joo Seolheon closed her notebook irritably while writing a report filled with curses.
She had thought she would decide to go to America for the sake of the child, but in the end, all that awaited her was the end of their marriage.
‘I heard Rigay is seeing another woman these days.’
Agent Damon handed her a paparazzi photo while gazing at the calm river. It was a shot of a pretty young Asian woman with a bob haircut walking alongside him. Her heart sank, but she merely raised her eyebrows in discontent.
Although it wasn’t a photo of just the two of them, their smiles directed at each other looked quite fitting. The woman was either pressing her cheek against her husband’s or wrapping her arm around his shoulder, or gently patting his hand with a serious expression. With each photo she flipped through, the baby kicked her belly hard.
‘But who is this man?’
Joo Seolheon pointed to a man who was out of the frame.
‘Ivan Solzhenitsyn.’
‘Solzhenitsyn? Is he from the Prime Minister’s family?’
‘That’s right. He’s the only son of Prime Minister Maxim.’
‘Why would someone like that associate with Rigay Viktor?’
She narrowed her eyes as if she didn’t understand.
‘According to what is known, they are senior and junior at Moscow University, and Ivan Solzhenitsyn is a doctor. There seem to be many connections, but we are looking into the details on our side. However…’
Damon glanced at her while lighting a cigarette.
‘Isn’t it your responsibility to find out who your husband is meeting and report back to me?’
Joo Seolheon stepped back, covering her nose and mouth.
‘How can the lifelong loner Rigay Viktor be meeting people regularly, and the wife not know about it? You’ve become complacent, Zoya. Are you perhaps suited to playing the role of a mother?’
His words pierced her pride.
‘Things aren’t like they used to be…’
Who was it that brought this man, who couldn’t even clean a single smudge off his glasses, this far? Who pretended to be nice, which didn’t suit her personality, and soothed his clumsiness? How could he be seeing another woman?
This woman was also said to be a doctor from Moscow University. She crumpled the photo she was holding in frustration.
‘Since the child came along, Rigay’s heart has drifted away.’
‘As I mentioned before, this is not something I can control. Rigay is struggling extremely with the situation of having a child. It’s a problem that won’t be resolved unless the child is removed.’ She said.
‘Then let’s do that.’
‘…!’
Joo Seolheon unconsciously placed her hand on her heavy lower abdomen.
‘What’s the point of having a child if you still lose Rigay?’
‘What…’
‘Let’s say it was a stillbirth during delivery.’
Her shoulder stiffened.
‘Zoya, never lose sight of the target. The moment Rigay completes his research, he will become a big player. I will prepare for the hospital.’
When she returned home, she waited for days for her husband, who still hadn’t come back. In the back of her mind, the image of the pretty woman and Rigaï’s unfamiliar smile, which no longer turned toward her, played on repeat.
That night, she endured labor pains all night long. She didn’t want a natural birth at all, but she gritted her teeth until her jaws ached and expelled the hot mass of flesh. It came out headfirst.
‘Ah… ha…, haha…’
Finally, she obtained something that could not be exchanged for anything else, something priceless.
This was a child that would prove and save her. The one who would rise to the top through this umbilical cord was none other than herself. Evidence of a top-secret mission that would elevate her to the highest place.
Joo Seolheon purposely avoided the baby’s face, checking only to see if it was a boy or a girl.
It was a girl.
