Chapter 136.2
Chapter 136.2
She felt him leaning in, gripping the armrests.
“Did you intend to incite conflict between nations, create tension, and disrupt regional peace and security?”
He removed the chair leg from her mouth, waiting for an answer.
This version of Kim Hyun felt nothing like the man she remembered.
Seoryeong ran her tongue over her aching front teeth before answering.
“Does my answer even matter?”
“You’ve put the country in a difficult position. Of course, we have to verify. Besides, I want to be wrong about you.”
“Then I’m sorry to disappoint.”
“…”
“I knew exactly what I was doing. And honestly? I probably wanted you and the NIS to go straight to hell.”
She smirked.
“But considering how long it took you to catch me, I must’ve done a damn good job.”
“…” Kim Hyun was speechless.
“You have no idea how hopeless it was, how alone I felt.”
She smiled, but it didn’t match the sharpness in her eyes. His voice turned colder.
“Still full of hot air, I see.”
“…!”
“Maybe I spoiled you too much. Do you really not understand your situation? Even a rumor linking you to North Korean orders would ruin you. And if some rat leaks the wrong information to the media. You attempted defection, the hacking, the summit attack, the deputy director’s abduction, and now this.”
His fingernail pressed hard into her lower lip, sending a sharp sting through her skin.
“You’ll never get to play this game with me again.”
Her expression hardened.
Not because of what he said—but because the face that came to mind wasn’t his.
Seoryeong’s mind snapped into focus.
The tracker.
She had bitten his face so viciously not just to hurt him—but to plant the tracker on him, using the chaos as cover.
Attaching the tracker to his clothes or shoes seemed pointless—an agent like him would notice and discard it immediately. She considered placing it near his neck, but she couldn’t tell where his real skin ended and his disguise began.
She had only one chance. Whatever she stuck the tracker onto had to remain unchanged, even if Kim Hyun altered his appearance.
This was a complete gamble. When she slammed her forehead into him and knocked him down, she peeled the small, round film from her sleeve and stuck it onto his sock. He might change his shoes in a hurry, but would he think to swap out his socks? That thought struck her in an instant.
Now, all that was left was the real chase. She had to get through this interrogation quickly to track his hideout or movement patterns.
Her hands trembled with the urge to contact Channa immediately. She needed to get out of here and confirm the tracker was working—fast.
“From now on, the NIS will deny everything, no matter what requests come in. But for that to work, Seoryeong, you need to behave. No incidents. No trouble.”
“…”
“It’s simple. This is an agreement stating that you won’t object to being monitored for a while. Sign it, and I’ll let you go immediately.”
She still couldn’t see. His voice was as smooth as ever, but her insides felt like ice.
A clipboard was placed in front of her, followed by the sharp click of a pen cap being removed. When she turned her head away in silent refusal, he suddenly grabbed her chin, tilting it up like he wanted to make eye contact, even through the blindfold.
“No? You don’t like my conditions?”
“…”
“Then should we just get back together? Maybe be a weekend couple?”
He said it like a joke, but Seoryeong clenched her teeth. Bastard.
That subtle, eerie difference… this wasn’t Kim Hyun. No matter how convincing he seemed, he was something made. Even if she ripped that mask off, she’d only find a stranger underneath. The moment she uncovered the truth, Kim Hyun would disappear like a mirage.
“Back then, I used to think I wouldn’t mind going blind again if it meant you’d come back. I did so many reckless things, and I never regretted a single one. But these days…” She exhaled lightly. “I think I might actually regret them.”
“…”
“Give me the pen.”
Her voice was steady.
“I’ll just think of this as the divorce papers I never got to sign.”
She had to play along for now and get out of here as soon as possible. Her face was unreadable, but inside, her mind raced like a ticking clock.
Just thinking about the tracker made her heart beat pound. Her mouth was dry. She shook her bound arms impatiently, wordlessly demanding her release.
“I won’t do anything dangerous again, even without a remarriage proposal.”
“…”
“Actually, I’ve met someone new.” The breath she had felt so close to her face suddenly halted.
A chair scraped harshly against the floor. The sudden pull sent her neck snapping back. At the same time, the blindfold was yanked away so easily it was almost anticlimactic.
His voice was sharp.
“Who?”
